If your server crashes, the guardian will re-initialize it.

Of course that a Firebird server never crashes, so the use of the guardian
is really subjective. :-)

I don't use it. I like to be aware about some crash, and dig into the source
of the problem. When using the guardian, we must look at the log file from
times to times.
