That's very strange. The install script in the port should have created that
symlink for you. I'll try it on a 5.1 box, to see if there's an unusual
condition the installer's having trouble with.

Yes, the symlink is fine.
I then create a directory, i.e. `/usr/db`, and chmod, chgrp it to the
`firebird` user, so it's secure. This step is left out of the port
installer, as people always want their data directories in different places.

As for FB1.5, the /usr/ports/databases/firebird-devel is being re-written to
use 1.5, instead of (as it stands now) 1.0-rc2.

Won't be long, as FB1.0.2 is still going strong.

You can build FB1.5 from CVS, though. Just run the setup script(autogen.sh)
to set up autoconf, et al, and it'll just gmake(albeit a little noisily)
