modifying bodges - Jason had a lot of code that 'hid' bugs
in Interbase, and so made it easier for us to work, but
those 'mudges' are now either not needed or cause
alternative problems. Since some people are still using
IB5.6 support for the range of engines is becoming a little
tricky.

I think you are right on it being a Borrism ;)
