I don't do it this way and now have three machines setup with both IB6.02
and FB1.5RC3
I just ensured that all clients were disconnected from the server. Ran the
full WIN setup for RC3. Then I edited the conf file to make a remoteport
change to 3051 and a remoteservice name to fb_db (the default is still
gds_db)
Then I edited the servers services file to add tcp/3051 fb_db
Then I started the FB service (it's not running directly after the setup).
then you ensure that all clients are using the newly installed gds32.dll
which provides for /portnumber connection strings.
From then on it's a matter of connecting to old IB databases using
servername/3050 and new databases with servername/3051
I haven't had a hitch yet and I use different ODBC drivers as well on the
servers (Intersolv and Gemini)
