Paul answered this question. Also, the explanation still applies for
bcc32 version 5.5.

Also, someone is working, maybe completed, so that Firebird can be
compiled with MinGW(open-source C++ compiler for Windows based on
GCC). I don't know the status on this, but you could probably ask on
the Firebird-Devel group on SourceForge.
