What's the output of ibase_error() function?
Also, you can turn error_reporting on to see all errors and warnings.

Have you checked whether php loads your interbase.so file properly?

If none of this helps, can you post the PHP code you tried to use.

And it would be good if you write which version of PHP/Firebird you're
using.
