For certain tasks yes. For others maybe not. It all depends on the
application and task at hand.

Yes, but it's still using memory, and other services are still running.
I guarantee it.

No windows machine machine at idle will use the resources that a stand
alone linux server will.

You can have a decent performing Linux server with 32Mb or less of
memory. Could that be said for Windows?

Were these the same ones who took IB open source and then brought it
back. From what I understand most of the main people behind InterBase
and now Firebird are no longer with Borland.

I would ask them. If you do not take their word then take no ones.

By the way did the Borland guys show you any benchmarks to prove their
theory? Were they there to sell or push Borland products? They want to
sell products, and I doubt those were the ones actually making the
product.

For me the evidence was in front of my face in real world apps. I have
nothing to gain by spending my time to convince you and others.

No offense, but if you are skeptical do the comparisons yourself.

Then come back to me after ward and lets talk about performance
differences.

I will see about putting some benchmarks together at some point, but it
sounds like you are a believer if it's in front of your face.

Are you religious? If so, how do you know there is a god, have you seen
him or benchmarks on his power, or speed as compared to the devil.

Crazy comparison, but hopefully you get the idea.

If I could slimline a Windows machine like a Linux one, then I may still
be a fan of Windows. For now I would rather people in the Windows world
open their eyes, and stop making Bill Gates richer.

Do you ever wonder where all the money comes from? Profit? Where are the
innovations? I give Apple in some ways more credit for their
innovations, but they have a all or nothing approach. The same thing
separating MS form the rest of the world. Their OS, desktop, browser, or
nothing.

By the way, can you install Windows without explorer or a desktop?

Or for a server are you just wasting disk space?
