Sorry, I don't have any significant input to your problem, other than
I just tried the first scenario you described (IB_SQL.exe and two
separate PCs) and was able to register and post the event
successfully using the TCP/IP connection syntax.

This was using 2xW2kPro SP3 and FB 1.02.
