The client comes with the server install. Don't use that old version 6
client. If you need a windows client, then download the matching windows
version to get the client library. Depending on your client software, you
will need to delete the old gds32.dll and replace it with the matching one
in the download.
I think you need to make sure that all clients connect to the server using
the identical connection string too.
