Subject [firebird-support] Need Advice of moving from Interbase 6.0.2.0 to Firebird
Author Martin Dew
We have numerous 24/7 large sites that are using the opensource version
of interbase 6.0.1.6. Our app is written in Delphi 5 using the BDE as
its gateway to interbase.

It is not an option to rewrite our app to use IBO or IBX components so
we will have to stick with the BDE for the time being. However we are
experiencing performance degredation at some of these sites were we have
to either a) backup and restore or b) reboot machine / interbase to get
it performing well again. It appears to be slowing down after a week or
so whereby opening a connection to interbase by using the
TDAtabase.Connected := True can take anywhere upto 10 minutes to
connect, once it has connected the queries run at normal speed in the
app, so it seems that the problem lies with trying to get a connection
from interbase.

My Question is, with my app and current configuration as is, can I
simply install FB and restore a backup of the database and all will
work, will it improve my systems performance ?, will it eradicate this
annoying problem for my sites ?

Any help would be much appreciated as I am at my wits end with this.

Best Regards

Martin Dew

As far as I understand, the issue is with the security database.
Basically you can only have one security database on your system.
Anybody knows if this change is even planned for 2.0?
