I would like to add my 2 bits.
I have found that MS SQL server has some draw backs. The data types TIME
and DATE are supported by interbase and not SQL server. MS SQL server
only supports DATETIME and the extraction of date and time from MS SQL
server can be problematic
when speed is an issue. Also if you want to talk with other data bases
such as FOXPRO which have all three data types you have a problem with
MS SQL server. MS SQL server overheads are not trivial and must not be
understated.
There are "horses for courses". All data bases have limititations even
MS SQL server. Some of my clients have moved from ORACLE to MS SQL
server and back again as over 300 MB MS SQL server has problems.

however, the data itself is secure, unless you know the SYSDBA password
or if you have granted rights to the PUBLIC user.
