Are you sure your firebird.conf is getting used at all? It must be in
the same directory as your executeable.

That being said, I'm not positive that the RemoteFileOpen stuff has been
updated recently or works with SMB. The references I've seen to it have
been with regard to NFS.

Maybe one of the developers could shed some light on it.
