permission at all files, chage file extention to FDB but nothing. My
connection is local. I don't understand as remote connection is faster than
local. Of course the remote connection is in Win98.

The problem is somewhere in how XP releases the cache when a database
closes.
In order to connect to one database Firebird connects first to isc4.gdb then
closes
it. In most cases (depending on hardware mostly) the closing process of
isc4.gdb
is very fast so connect happens immediately (only because isc4.gdb is
small). But
closing the real database is usualy slow on XP (due to the mentioned cache
handling)

I don't remember who said that if you change the memory usage to ajust for
best
performance for system cache it will work ok. I did not for me but it might
work
for you.
