Back in the days of Interbase, there was real danger about the database no
longer being supported. But thanks to IBDI (I guess) Borland opened the
source code and since then things have flourished.
Very few people are actually developing the Firebird engine and currently
they all work as volunteers. But things are in progress and hopefully
someone will soon receive payment for this kind of work. Your greatest
security is that many people are dependent upon Firebird and its future
(Raymond said that his system alone would hold data worth billions of
dollars) and many of us would do a lot to prevent Firebird from dying. I
simply cannot see any reason for worrying - short of another world war or
nuclear blast.
As for report tool (I didn't quite understand you there), many people use
Fast-Report (uncertain about its spelling) or ReportBuilder.
