Could anybody with Solaris (Sparc) / Firebird with multi-gb (3-4) and
500+ user real world application experience
please provide me with their experiences.

We are almost able to convince our client to go down this path rather
than the $oracle$ approach.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated ?

That is - performance, problems encountered etc.
