Just to complement with this:
I ask about your operating system because you can have this kind of problem
with WinME and XP (read the Release Notes).

I'm sure it's not a bug, but you must identify if it's a server problem or
something else. One thing that ocurs to me it's that the client machine
could be using some DNS call to identify the server before connecting. That
could take some time.
