Thanks to everybody who is replying to this. Just to say that I'm new to
Firebird and therefore this list and am pretty impressed by the response to
my query as well as the general helpful tone of all the messages I've spied
on <g> so far.
In answer to the many and varied questions on my set up:
The server (linux mandrake 8.1) and the client (Windows 98) talk to
each other with no problems i.e.
I can ping the linux server from the DOS command line;
The IBExpert Comms tests all check out OK (i.e. gds_db, 3050, ftp etc);
I can connect up to the MySQL server listening on port 3306;
The etc/services file has gds_db 3050 in it;
The hosts file on the windows box resolves the host name to the ip address
OK and the hosts.equiv file on the server is OK;
If I'm at the linux command line I can use ISQL quite happily;
The opt/interbase directory is on the same physical machine as the gds
server;
I created a test database on windows and ftp'd it to my home directory on
the server - the result was the same.
So I think my network is OK (?) However, the log shows the following errors
for tonight:
Acer.kbs (Server) Fri Apr 19 19:57:35 2002
INET/inet_error: read errno = 104
Acer.kbs (Server) Fri Apr 19 19:57:44 2002
INET/inet_error: read errno = 104
Acer.kbs (Server) Fri Apr 19 19:57:46 2002
INET/inet_error: read errno = 104
Acer.kbs (Server) Fri Apr 19 20:19:15 2002
INET/inet_error: read errno = 104
Acer.kbs (Client) Fri Apr 19 20:42:46 2002
/opt/interbase/bin/ibguard: bin/ibserver terminated abnormally (-1)
Where do I go from here?
Regards
Martyn
