The Roman (and I think Slavic) alphabets do not require
Unicode, so you should be OK until you get to East Asian
versions. Give me a few hours to get my head out of the
Linux ftp security nightmare I'm enjoying and I'll play
with the problem - it's likely to be a trivial fix - or
maybe impossible... or maybe in between...
