This behaviour is "normal" (i.e. it always behaved this way).
The bug (the fact that the server locks up) was not fixed yet (afaik).

Events use different port that usual gds_db/3050.
When registering events you always get assigned different port number,
making it using events via proxy impossible (unless you permit unsing all port numbers :-)
