I too had this problem with RH 7.2. I reinstalled it > 20 times, thinking
that I had stuffed something up with subsequent installs of Kylix 2 and
Firebird.

The solution finally came when I disabled power management in the bios of
the machine (an IBM 686) prior to installation # 22. No more timeouts on
tcp/ip connections. The machine hasn't been switched off for nearly 5
weeks and the FB server is there whenever I want it. :))
