I guess dry understatement gets missed by some. However, I've already
stated that this is unfortunate and that it is not useful to break a lot
of code that has been working happily until now.

If it was working before it would be preferable if it were to continue
to work. However even in the world of open source, where development
happens at the speed of light we do need to consider the impact of
different time-zones. The Firebird developers who will probably fix this
may not even know the problem exists yet.
