MS Access has come a long way in regards to that. It can operate very good
in a C/S environment. The use of ODBC is mentioned and also MS Access can
connect to any ODBC and ADO datasource. I'm not advocating for Access, but
just merely pointing out that it has come a long way, even though it
doesn't have all the flexibility of other environments.

BTW, I'm a Delphi and Firebird developer. I occasionally have to use
Access to look at the data I have to transfer from Access to Firebird for
clients.
