It sounds the right way to go to me.

That does not sound like dreaming, if the core engine is
right, the bells and whistles follow on. In my case, if the
query takes more than 1 minute there is a problem - it would
be nice to prevent it crashing the whole network <g>

I get the feeling that Borland are Services based, but that
Interbase was SQL based until Borland got hold of it. Is
there any reason why Firebird can't follow the 'pure' root
