Like others, I have been following this issue these past few days and
wondered when there would be an official decision. This is
reassuring news, indeed.
How many companies have discovered a flaw in their product just prior
to distribution and yet continued with the release? "Forget about
it. We'll fix it in the first service pack." (But it won't be called
a 'fix'; it will be called 'building on the stability and
reliability' of the product. Ahem, I digress...)
A decision like this says everything about how a company views its
customers and how that company views its product.
The firebird team's decision to delay the release of FB1 also speaks
volumes about how they view the users and how they view FB/IB. I
don't need to translate for you, but the words Pride and Commitment
immediately spring to mind. It has been a long, hard road, and the
finish line is finally in sight. It would have been easy for them to
say, "Let's just get it out there. It's not as good as it could be,
but we can worry about that later."
They didn't. That would be like sending your child to school with
unbrushed hair or unfinished homework. When you care about
something, you take the time to do things right.
FB1's official release delayed by a few weeks versus FB1's official
release going out with a known serious bug? You do the math -- just
be sure you check for precision errors :-)
