The proper way to change it is to create a temp field with the desired
properties. Then, copy the data over to the temp field. Then, rename the
field. What also needs to be done is to make sure that this field does not
have any dependencies, otherwise, you'll have to deal with the dependencies
before being able to make the changes to the desired field.
