Subject Installation of Fire Bird On SuSe Linux 7.3
Author R. S. Patil
Dear Friends,

I have a Suse Linux 7.3 Server and earlier Firebird SS rpm. While
Installing that i used a
installation script to have Manual Start/Stop and Auto Start Scripts
copying.

I removed all the scripts and Tried to Install Latest Linux Build

FirebirdSS-1.0.0.681-0.RC2.i386.rpm using the Package Manager.

It succeeded and i rebooted the Server. Surprisingly i found that the
Fire Bird Server is
not running. I Checked S##firebird and K##firebird scripts which were
OK. Then it
struck me that it Refers START_FIREBIRD variable so i added a Line in to
/etc/rcconfig START_FIREBIRD="yes" and rebooted. Then i Found that
Firebird server is running.

Can anybody confirms that This is a proper way of Firebird auto start in
init level 2 3 5

if Yes Then why package installation don't do it ?

One more difficulty is If at all i want to start and stop Firebird
server without rebooting machine
how can i do that ? is There any script for that for Suse Linux ?

Thanks
