Actually, Firebird has the advantage over PostGreSQL in one major
department. Native support for windoze. I find Firebird to be a small
footprint, clever and reasonably efficient database, albeit with a dark
ages C api (important to me).
It took about 2 days to convert my dbms access routines from Postgresql to
Firebird, and the application layer doesn't know the difference. In an
ideal world, I'd use just one dbms (likely PostGreSQL), but I'm very
pleased with the ability to host a proper SQL type database on the windoze
environment with an open source license!! Come to think of it, in an
ideal world, I wouldn't have to develop apps for Windoze at all ...
Now if I could figure out how to link the Firebird .lib files to my MinGW
project ...
