I have a new XP Pro box at work, 2.4 GHz / 100MBit LAN etc. Connection to local

connecting to an old Oracle server right next to it takes about a minute (not
that i'd want to do that<g>, i'm just forced atm.)
What can i say, next to it stands a Win2K laptop, half as fast, and it connects
through the exact same client / BDE / ODBC / network setup / hardware etc. in
under 4 seconds... strange, isn't it??
P.S.: if you want a live demonstration of the "little computer people" inside
XP, try to delete the Windows Media Player folder in Programs. See the files
disappear, let XP tell you it can't delete the folder itself, count to three and
- magic - the just deleted files are all back again. I hate OSs that think they
can think.
