As for "local" connection string...
You make a connection infequently compared with overall server requests. The
time taken to make the connection is immaterial. The server, however, is, in
my experience, always better to be treated as a remote service anyway. so
servername:drive:/path etc is always a better way to go.

When I said "twice the time" I didn't think 'connecting' but 'running'. I
don't really mind a connect taking 0.01 or 2 seconds when running the job
takes an hour (or two hours, if I use TCP/IP). BTW, they say IB/7 connects
at less than the blink of an eye (hint, hint to any Fb developer with free
time!).

As for non-TCP/IP: is it correct to just disable "Client for Microsoft
Networks" and "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks", or do I
need to uninstall them?
Will the server (Win2k) require (immediate) rebooting?
