Is anyone aware of any problems with installing the latest
version of Firebird (Firebird-1.0.0.796-Win32.EXE) under Windows
2000?
I'm a total newcomer to Interbase (from Oracle, if it matters),
but I have a client who wants some work doing on a Delphi program
using ASTA, IBObjects and Firebird.
I'm using Delphi 6 Pro. patched up to v6.2, and I've made sure
that I've deleted all traces of the Delphi version of Interbase
from my PC (plus see below). I'm running Win 2000 Pro SP3,
Pentium III/600 MHz, 512 MB of RAM.
The problem I see is that the installation *appears* to go
through correctly (NOT using the Guardian service), but at the
end, the Firebird program group contains only the uninstall link,
and setting up a shortcut to \firebird\bin\ibserver.exe and
trying to run the server from that gets me nowhere - if I try to
run the program with the task manager open, I don't see the
program come into the task list at any point.
Just to make sure that I didn't have some vestige of an earlier
version of Interbase on my system, I then tried installing the
server on my wife's PC, which has never seen any version of
either Delphi or Interbase. Same OS, a little lower spec of PC.
Exactly the same results. :-(
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Brian.
