Hi,
Just thought I'd share my experiences over the weekend ...
1. Successfully ported our application from IB5.5 on SCO (mainly ESQLC
source) to Linux Mandrake 8.2/Firebird 1.0.0.796-0 ... in about 5-6
hours ...
This was a proof of concept task done for my own learning ... but we
will be trying to convince our client to ditch IB5.5 and go down this path.
Problems encountered:
Only one: Introduction of the TIMESTAMP field means date fields in ESQL
should now be declared as ISC_TIMESTAMP.
Conclusion: if anyone is looking to go down this path .... don't be
afraid ...
2. I am also trying to install Oracle 9.2 on linux in order to benchmark
the two db's.
After 5 hours (and constant frustration) eventually got it up and
running ...
I then installed firebird again on the same server .... and after 5
seconds got it running !!!
A friend of mine who was with me at the time couldn't believe his eyes ...
