What could be hard than: Unistall IB 6.0, install Firebird v1.0 and go.

The problem is with XP's File/System Protection functionality. Have a
look at the v1.0 release notes, there is a section which explains the
issues clearly.

The solution is to either; disable the XP function or change the
extension of your databases from .gdb to something else (.fdb).
