I don't remember writing that...can you give me a page ref? Still, it's good advice. With Firebird, use all the executables in the Firebird kit, especially the client program (gds32.dll).

That green-and-yellow icon comes with Guardian's tray proglet and FB is still using the original version of that proglet because Inprise didn't release the source for it. Same story with the Control Panel applet for running as a service.

Firebird's actual ibguard.exe shows the same green/yellow icon on the exe file (time we fixed that). Look up the Properties applet on the exe to check that the version number matches the version number on the server.

Sorry, I don't know what that indicates. So far, all I've heard of XP is the problem of severe performance degradation due to the SystemRestore thing.
