hi dave,
just a quick thought. i'm suspicious of your hosts file. in my experience
you can define a single hosts file which can copied to each pc on the
network when using fixed addresses. it should look something like this in
your case...
127.0.0.1 localhost
169.254.0.3 PC1
169.254.0.6 PC2
