I have a customer who can't connect from one of his client machines.
The server is Firebird 0.9.4, running on Win98. The client is Firebird
as well, running Win95. He has another client on Win98 that is working
fine. The Win95 machine is a P133, with 16MB or RAM.
The connection string is:
192.168.0.1:C:\program files\myapp\data300.gdb
This works fine on the other (Win98) client. On the new client (Win95),
it's set up the same way, but he gets the following error when trying to
connect:
ERROR OPENING DATABASE
Unknown Database
Unable to complete network request to host "192.168.0.1"
Failed to locate host machine
The specified name was not found in
General SQL Error
the hosts file or domain name services
Since it alluded to the HOSTS file, we tried making an entry for the
server in there. We got the same error.
We are able to ping the server by IP address, and that works fine.
Also, Windows networking is working just fine under TCP/IP as well. We
tried changing the connection string to refer to the host name that we
entered into the HOSTS file, instead of the IP address, and we still get
the same error.
Is 16 MB of RAM sufficient to run a FB client? What are the minimum
system requirements, anyway?
Any ideas on why we can't connect?
Thanks,
Joe
