Certainly for the linux version this is the case.
Originally we had a tourturous voting and debating system to determine
the next number (1.0.0 won) not by a lot, but by enough. (Personally I
was keen on a 6.x in part for these reasons), but was happy to go with
the "group decision'.
As Sean mentioned this is a problem and we need to address it, and a 6.x
release would certainly solve some of these issues in a nice and simple
way.
