This bit has nothing to do with IB and everthing to do with
Microstuffed.

It is not IB that resolves the IP address, but the
particular configuration of drivers that have been installed
on the windows machines. If you provide an IP Address, in
some drivers it will be accepted, processed and you are
there. In others it is treated as a server name, and soes a
lookup into the HOSTS table, which fails, but then it
returns the IP Address deciding that it has actually been
converted - 30-40 second timeout on that!

The only way we have found to get IDENTICAL W98SE machines
to reliably make fast connections is to use small identical
HOSTS tables in each of them, and use UPPERCASE machine
names. This even applies when accessing a Linux server, and
is pure Bill Gates crap <G> - nothing anybody other then
MICROSOFT can fix.
