I had used non sequential numbering previously. Every year when a
new "group" gained control I was asked why there were say 1,000
members and the membership id most recently issued was 2155. I
explained that he number was meaningless. They did not agree. They
thought it was very meaningful and wanted the highest number issues to
reflect the membership.
