No, I wasn't saying that an upgrade to 5.6 would cure the problem. What I was saying was that an upgrade from the ill-fated 5.0 to 5.1.1 cured a similar problem back when it wasn't Win98 and Win2K but Win95 and NT 4.

But you should take Claudio's advice and do the 5.6 upgrade. 5.0 was released, very shortly followed by 5.1, then 5.1.1 (over a period of days); 5.1 was not a happy release; 5.5. followed it with great fanfare ("all problems fixed") but it was worse than 5.1. It was soon superseded by 5.6, which has proven very stable. Keep a copy of the 5.1 gds32.dll on file somewhere, in case you need to use events. The 5.1 client works well with the 5.6 server and cures a bug in event-handling which came in with the 5.5 client (which became the 5.6 client).

Apart from that, it all seems very simple. <g> But there's nothing to say it's going to fix your problem with a Dr Watson on Win2K pro. It's the first report I've heard of 5.x having this sort of trouble with Win2K...
