Stan,
Since you're using IB 6.0, would you care to try the new FB 'RC1'?
In addition to a host of bug fixes and new features, the new release has
a default setting which sets the CPU affinity of the server process to
CPU 0 when the engine starts up.
The engine can use your existing databases directly, no backup/restore
is required. If you don't like things, you can go back to IB 6.0 (as
long as you haven't used any of the new Firebird language features)
At least it's an option to consider.
