IBConsole shows the problem too...

It starts immediately, then I can do 1 of 2 things...

If the DB is not registered, I can register it (then wait 20-30 seconds for 'Local Server' to appear. Then login (and wait 20-30 sec for the login to finish).

If the DB is already registered, I can login, but it still takes 20-30 sec for the login to happen.

just a thought to try and get more info on this problem, what happens
if you attempt to connect via IBconsole or other tools like winSQL
