I needed some sort of compression when using FireBird over
a slow network connection. So I did some 'cut and paste' from
code that I have previously made.

The compression software acts like a TCP/IP proxy between
the FireBird client software and the FireBird server.

Now what suprised me was that a SELECT that normally
takes 45 seconds was cut down to 15 seconds. However, as
expected, over a fast LAN no gain at all.
