Thanks so much for your extensive & thoughtful reply. You're right,
it's a protocol issue.

Pinging my NT server is also very slow. I should have thought to try
that before bothering this group. It's clearly not an IB issue.

I suspect the problem stems from the recent addition of a gateway to
my cable modem. Doubtless I've got things somewhat misconfigured.
Well, now to learn more about TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP..... <g>
.
Just a programmer, not a networking guru. :-(
