ls -l on your /opt/firebird folder - does dbs have firebird as its user ?
You may need to sudo chown firebird.firebird /opt/firebird/dbs/
Apologies if what I say above is obvious and you have done it already.
Only other place to look then is in the firebird.conf file which will
establish where it has permission to write.
Look at the DatabaseAccess option, should be well documented.
