The guide was cleaned up a a lot (tested on ubuntu natty but it should
work ok on maverick , debian ...)

So to answer the question it can be installled
But you should be aware that there could be bugs around it

ps:it's interesting that pdo now comes in the core of php so you don't
need to install it from pecl!
