Deliciously wicked!!!
Now, to better support his position, they just need to synchronize every
Windows release with a VC release, forcing every app to be recompiled
for the new platform!!!
Whatever you believe, mixing DLL of different, even unknown origins is
not only supported, but actually the very reason DLLs exist. As long as
they do not expose their internal heap, if ever they have one. The prime
example is Windows, which is mostly a collection of DLLs, that can be
called by VC4...9...X, by Delphi, C++ builder, gcc, ada, and anything else.
So, now we are whiners because we fail to help you solve a problem that

I only see two solutions: either you get your mentor/supervisor/manager
in Microsoft review your statements and get your facts straight, or you
simply publish PHP without Firebird support explaining your reasons in
the changelog. The really ugly part of me would really rather see you
choose the second option and wait to see if anyone would ever hire you
again. The very little good part I still have shouts to advise you to
choose the first option.
Let me reiterate:
We cannot help you solve a problem that doesn't exist. Excluding malice,
you're just dreaming it.
