Pierre - we have our own solution to the problem which maintains
backward compatibility with EXISTING client dll's. Something which the
solution you want to implement does not allow, so we will be remaining
with using the version of dll supplied with an audited distribution of
Firebird. Just because other database engines have not provided their
customers with backwards compatibility is not a problem that we have
ever had to worry about.

I'll run an x64 build of PHP5.3 over the weekend and update the download
sites.
