some applications can't be migrated to 5.3.0 so easily so maybe they
want to use 5.1.x
but now you have good support for firebird on redhat/fedora/centos
and it is easy to install after you enable the repository
yum install php-interbase

i have updated the guide for centos and php 5.1.x
i will put the source install in another page , for the moment is
there if you really want to do an source install :)
