Has anyone gotten cakephp to work with firebird via adodb?

I have cakephp finding the drivers, but it seems unable to connect to my database. DBWorkbench and isql both connect just fine using the same host, user, password, database name, etc., so I'm pretty sure my firebird installation is correct and functional.

I don't see any error codes or messages: cake simply reports being unable to connect.

I'm certain I am missing something obvious....
