You are using the the ibase_connect to connect to the database?

$conn = ibase_connect("localhost:c:/path/file1.fdb","user","pass");
(Be careful about the colons around the drive letter - you've got them wrong
in your email)

And you've got:
The entry correct in your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services file?
gds_db 3050/tcp (You said you had 'gsb_db 3050/gdb' in your file)

one blank line at the bottom of your services file (Windows needs this...)
